MIX-UP

The Magic Hat Ensemble are hosting a new monthly night of live music at The Klondyke Club in Levenshulme, Manchester. Happening on the first Thursday of each month, Mix Up features three different live acts across styles and forms. After an initial three month trial period the night will be continuing into 2012 with a whole host of cracking live acts scheduled to perform in the coming months. JELLYMOULD JAZZ & HARMONIA MUNDI

Jellymould Jazz have teamed up with French label Hamonia Mundi to set up UK distribution for their catalogue. The label have also set up international distribution meaning you can now buy albums from The Magic Hat Ensemble as far afield  as Japan.

Steve Chadwick is a London based cornet/trumpet player. He works throughout the UK and Europe playing mostly jazz and world music but also other improvised forms. He plays regularly with the French grand street theatre company La Machine and has toured with them in France, Spain, the UK and Japan. "Steve Chadwick makes hard bop sound like the new thing" - City Life.

Nick Blacka graduated from Leeds College of Music in 2001 and has since performed extensively throughout the UK and Ireland. As the bassist for Aim he has performed at Glastonbury Festival, The Big Chill, O2 Wireless Festival, Electric Picnic and Shepherd's Bush Empire. Nick has played with many notable jazz performers including Alan Barnes, Dave O'Higgins and Benn Clatworthy. He currently holds the bass chair for Simply Big Band.

Rob Turner was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain before studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. In 2004 Rob won the Pizza Express Young Jazz Musician competition and began his career performing with Andy Shepherd at the Pizza Express Jazz Club, London and with Alex Wilson in the London Jazz Festival. Rob has performed with some of the UK's most successful jazz musicians including Mike Walker, Neil Yates and Matthew Halsall.

Andrzej Baranek is a highly regarded pianist on the Manchester jazz scene who reached the semi-finals of the Nottingham International Jazz Piano Competition 2010. He has worked with an impressive array of artists, including Alan Barnes, Don Weller, Scott Hamilton and Enrico Tomasso. An adept Latin pianist, he has worked with Salsa stars Jimmy Bosch and Joe Bataan as part of the Vintage at Goodwood festival 2010.

Tony Ormesher is a Liverpool-born guitarist who, in 1993 at the age of 12, won the Daily Telegraph Young Jazz Musician of the Year award. After finishing as runner up in the Young Jazz Musician of the Year regional finals in 1997, he went on to study jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Since returning to Liverpool he regularly performs around the Northwest along with annual performances in Germany where in 2006 he won the Berlin Jazz and Blues award.
